Success Case | KROGER - A Well-Known Large Chain Supermarket in the United States

Release time: 2024-06-05 13:25

Kroger, a large North American chain supermarket, has over 2,700 stores across the United States, with most single stores ranging in size from 2,000 to 5,000 square meters.

Kolker Paul, the technical director of this warm-hearted supermarket, understands deeply that food is a carrier of emotions and a bond between people. At Kroger, whether it's fresh food, meat, baked goods, fruits, vegetables, or frozen products, all food must be ensured fresh, safe, and strictly monitored to provide consumers with guaranteed food safety. Because of this, the supermarket’s sales have been strongly secured, allowing it to remain consistently within the ranks of Fortune 500 companies.

From procurement to cold chain storage, to food preparation and service, quality assurance places high demands on time and human resources. The traditional food quality and safety management approach involves manually recording measurement results and then organizing them on paper for comprehensive quality management. Especially in refrigerated areas, temperature checks may need to be conducted every hour.

Given the increasingly stringent food safety and quality control standards imposed by the U.S. government, to reduce the human costs of assigning specialists to inspect each cold cabinet and cold storage while recording, eliminate control incidents, and receive early warnings when issues arise to quickly address them, Paul realized that only through a fully digital solution could efficiency be improved without compromising quality. Therefore, Paul decided to introduce a full-process cold chain temperature monitoring solution to reorganize the cumbersome inspection work and handle the backlog of paper forms, addressing future monitoring of quality-related parameters.

Kroger introduced the full-process cold chain temperature monitoring solution developed by Guangzhou Jingrui Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., blending quality with technology to elevate the supermarket’s food quality and safety standards. The deployment included over 600,000 wireless temperature sensors and more than 60,000 gateways; a subsequent deployment added over 290,000 wireless temperature sensors and more than 27,000 gateways, with engineers fully participating in site surveys, installations, and debugging. All Kroger stores across the United States were equipped with cold chain equipment and temperature monitoring systems.
